Bhimbetka Caves - Bhimbetka Caves are located at about 46 kms south of Bhopal. The caves, on the northern fringe of the Vindhyan ranges, were the adobe to the primitive man. There are over 600 caves or the rock shelters dating back to the Stone Age. The paintings depict in vivid detail, the life and subsistence of the pre-historic cave dwellers. The oldest paintings are supposed to be up to 12,000 years old becoming an invaluable record of the history of man.

Bhojpur - Bhojpur The ancient city of Bhojpur, 28 kms southeast of Bhopal is famous for the Bhojeshwar Temple devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple overlooks a vast, now dried-up lake. The temple has a massive lingam, 2.3 mts high and 5.3 mts in circumference. The earthen ramp raising it to dome-level still stands as the temple was never commpleted. Still the temple is one of the best specimens of temple architecture of the 11th-13th centuries.

Pachmarhi - Pachmarhi, set admist Satpura Hills at a height of 1,067 mts above sea level, is located at about 195 km from Bhopal. As per the legends Pandavas, heros of the epic Mahabharata spent some part of their exile in the forest near Panchmarhi. The serene surroundings, groves of wild bamboo, tranquil forest glades, jamun and thick sal forests make Pachmarhi an ideal retreat. The cave shelters of the Mahadeo Hills, with their rock paintings, dating back to AD 500-800, are major attractions here.

Sanchi - Sanchi. 46 km northeast of Bhopal, is famous for the Buddhist art and archetecture dating from the 3rd century BC all the way to the 12th century AD. Ancient stupas, temples, monasteries, and pillars are some of the monuments commonly associated with the area. The famous Sanchi Stupa, originally built by Ashoka, is a world heritage site.

Udaygiri - The Udaygiri Caves, at 5 kms from Vidisha, are cut into a sandstone hill. The caves belong to the period of AD 320 to 606. An inscription discovered here states that it was during the reign of Chandragupta II (AD 382-401) that these caves were constructed. Of the 20 caves, two are Jain and 18 Hindu. In cave number 5, Vishnu has been depicted in his boar incarnation. At the top of the hill, ruins of the 6th-century Gupta temple is also there..
